Terrifically Tempting Thursday

Thursday's have all of the sudden become the busiest day of my entire week. I joined a mom-to-mom's group through my church...which is basically a "small group" for mom's that meet once a week. We talk, eat, & then do some kind of Bible Study. I really enjoy it & have met some really sweet mom's. They also provide childcare..which is a break for me..& gives Emmi-Reece the chance to play & interact with other children.

We started the study "5 conversations you must have with your son/daughter" a few weeks ago. Obviously..if you have boys..you choose son..and if you have only girls..then you do daughter. But if you have BOTH...like me..then you are forced to choose. That was hard for me because who on Earth ever wants to have to make that kind of choice???? It almost felt mean to me. But...I figured that I would end up reading many a book trying to raise teenage girls so I decided to do the book on "son's" this time. Plus, with Greg being in the military & being away alot..I felt that I needed to gain some extra knowledge on how to raise Gavin to be a Godly man..since Greg won't always been around to help with that. So anyway..great study so far! I am really enjoying it & learning alot of new things along the way.

Last week we talked alot about David..and the incident he had with Bathsheba. For those who are not familiar with the story...it is pretty easily summed up. David (who was called " a man after God's own heart") decides to take a stroll on his rooftop...as he is looking over the city..he notices this really beautiful girl taking a bath. (hello...where's the shower curtain???) So David sends someone out to find out who she was...and was told that her name was Bathsheba (thankful names got better over time) and that she was married to Uriah (one of the soldiers). Then he sent for her & slept with her. Yes, she ended up pregnant! (can't you see this one the cover of gossip magazine?) After hearing this news..David sent for her husband (again, who is at war) and tells him to come home & get some rest. (aka..sleep with your wife) But Uriah did not go home. He actually slept at the palace entrance. David realized that Uriah never went home and asked him why..and Uriah responded by basically saying that his men were at war..sleeping out in the open...and in tents..and he didn't feel right being layed up in his king-sized bed, down comforter, & his wife by his side. David said.."well stay here tonight and go home tomorrow". Like, helloooo...go home and sleep with your wife dangit! Uriah never would go home so David tryed getting him drunk..hoping then he would want to go home. That didn't work either...so with that being said David plotted to have the army put Uriah on the front line..making it easier for him to be killed. The army did as they were told..and Uriah was killed. Eventually, David sent for Bathsheba & she moved to the palace to become one of his wives. So ALL of this..to cover up David's sin. Imagine the sleepless nights David had trying to cover up his sin? As, many of us have trying to cover up our sin.

Basically what this brought us too was talking about self-control..which is one of the fruits of the Spirit..and that is no accident. Our children are NOT born with a natural desire for self-control; therefore it's up to us to teach them it's importance. Had David seen Bathsheba bathing..and turned his eyes from it...he may have not sinned..& ended up in the situation that he got himself in. And again...that's all about self-control. And if you're like me...you lack it! I'm definetly NOT a peeping Tom with hopes to see some man bathe (ew)...but I may or may not lack self-control in not eating the million Reese's hearts I stocked up on after Valentine's Day.

I will continue to write about this study on my blog. And I would highly recommend that at some point that you do this study yourself. =)

Grocery Day...

Today was grocery day. And I have a love/hate relationship with grocery day. About a week before the day I am to go grocery shopping, I start my list. I like to do this so I have plenty of time to scope out what we're out of..as well as meal planning for the next 2 weeks. Making the list & planning meals is pretty fun. I enjoy looking for new recipes..to change things up..and there is something satisfying to me about making a list & being able to cross everything off of it when I am done. I like to do my grocery shopping first thing in the morning, right after taking the kids to school. Wal-Mart is ALOT less crowded in the 9:00 hour vs. mid afternoon. So that's a WIN right there. My little Emmi-Reece is my grocery shopping partner..and it's also a WIN if she stays in the buggy & behaves while we shop. If she does not...well....that's another story for another day. She did good today..thankfully! So I go up & down every isle...crossing off my list...and praying that the store has everything that I need. Ugh..I cannot stand needing something..& the store being out of it. STOCK UP PEOPLE! Today they had their Valentine's Day stuff on sale & you know that I racked up on Reese's hearts...my faveeee! I did pretty good spending wise today too..which is another WIN! I buy mostly everything at Wal-Mart & run by the commissary afterwards to grab a few things that I prefer to get there. By this point it's almost noon & I have to head home to un-load. And that's the dreaded part. Carrying all of the heavy bags into my house & having to make about 2o trips in doing so. I do enjoying arranging everything neatly onto my shelves & in the fridge. Picking every single grape off the vine & placing in a plastic container...not so much! Grocery shopping today went well overall. I am thankful to have the money to buy groceries...& the ability to walk into the store and buy them. I find that you spend less money when you have a list..and it's also beneficial when planning meals.

I am glad that grocery day is over....for the next 2 weeks anyway! =)

Valentine's Day 2012

Today is Valentine's Day!
The day of love.
Flowers.
Sweet cards.
Candy. (Reese's hearts to be exact)
Romantic Dates.

Or...it could be take-out from Zaxby's & an evening with your three kids because your hubby's job didn't get the memo that today is VALENTINE'S DAY! After thinking about it...I am pretty sure that last Valentine's Day Greg was gone..in some kind fo training..or something. Good thing that I don't need ONE day in February to be the only day during the year that I give love and feel loved.

I love my hubby 365 days a year. And I try to show him...more than just on February the 14th.

Here are a few reasons why I love Greg: (in no particular order)

He is HOT!
He has a great sense of style
He has a heart for the Lord
He is responsible
He is sensitive, yet very strong
He is good at everything that he does
He is a good dad
He is a great cook
He is funny
He looks awesome in jeans and boots (oh yeah)
He has the prettiest eyes
He is very musically inclined
He is loving
He is sweet
He is ALL MINE

Another Valentine's Day has come & gone. I am looking forward to our "date" this coming weekend..and am glad to get to love Greg..not just on Valentine's Day!

My very first post....

I have always wanted to blog. I love blogs. In fact, part of my "daily routine" includes 'checking the blogs' of people that I enjoy reading. Blogging to me is almost like having a diary..personal...but not private...and a way to write down your feelings...or for me..things that I do in my own daily life. I have decided to blog so that I can write down & record anything that goes on that I don't want to forget...or something funny that one of my kids may have done or said. I also want to blog to share recipes. I love to cook & enjoy passing on recipes to friends & family who also like to cook & want a new recipe. On my blog I will also share my faith...alot! And hope that I can encourage the people that read it.

So there....I'm doing it...I'm going to blog! And I hope that you enjoy taking a peak into the life of this stay-at-home mom of three/army wife/cook/maid/does it all/Christian! =)
